Penn Battle III Spinning Reels are built for the saltwater angler with the guts and drag to handle whatever you put these reels through. These spinning reels are made for the battle with full metal body, HT-100 carbon fiber drag system, and CNC gear technology. Strong and durable reels at the perfect price.
I'm tough on equipment and I have had good luck with penn reels in the past so when I was putting together an ultralight setup I looked at a couple of options. I'm also trying out a daiwa fuego 2500, which is lighter. Time will tell which one lives on my ultralight rod full time.
ProsIt's the lightest battle 3
ConsIt's heavier than competitors in the ultra light category.

Awesome reel, used it in the surf and is an easy clean up, enough drag to do whatever you need it for. Not super heavy but made with quality metals.

I have used the Battle 3 for about a month. Went fishing for Sea Bass and Scup. Smooth and capable. This will be my new Tautog reel with a Lami rod. Preordered so I had to wait but once it was in stock they shipped it in two days.

Same as battle 2.

Nothing feels new. Same as my battle 2 4000. I know its a cnc gears and will last longer, but my battle 2 still alive after so many sea water dip just di the regular maintenance.
Im getting one of these reels for large sharks and im am stressing on whether to get the 8000 or the 10000 i would buy the 10000 but its twice as heavy. Any suggestions? I'm a shorter person 5 foot 8.
1 Answer
It really depends on what rod you're using, however for large sharks I would definitely go with the 10000,
purely because of its line capacity advantage. Its only 11oz more than the 27 oz 8000.Â
Hey i was wondering what size reel for surf cast sharkfishing for sharks 6 feet and up? And what rod to go with it? i have a couple spinfisher 6000s i use for bull reds but i wanted to step up my game and catch some sharks.
Thanks, Nick

For larger sharks I would go with either of the 8000 models. The 8000HS is the high speed version that offers a bit more line capacity as well. You could even go up to the 10000 size, but keep in mind, it is a very large reel.Â

Which size would be best for all around inshore fishing? I have a 2500 battle 2 but was looking for something maybe a little bigger to hang with the bull reds
1 Answer
I would go with the 4000 size. This should allow you to handle larger fish when they come along, as well as still maintaining the finesse needed for light tackle scenarios.Â

I recommend a 7' Medium rated rod, I would pair this reel with a St. Croix Mojo Inshore rod
