I've had the 4K Combo for about 3 years. It has never failed me, and the cork on the rod still looks great. Catches fish.....and the rod considered a M for saltwater, would be closer to a MH for freshwater use.
Good customer service

Had this same combo for years and finally bit the dirt after many nice fish caught. Handled 30+ lb cobia better than 7000 series rod I also used
Ordered the blue 4000 combo for wife's birthday Reel and rod shipped separate
Reel arrived with a nick on the spool where it would directly scrape line constantly.
TD sent me a return label, returned and replaced with no shipping cost to me. I was upset at first, but TD made it right with no questions asked. Happy customer
ProsBest inshore spinning combo for a tight budget IMO Great drag, good power New color scheme is sweet Easy maintenance
ConsNot completely sealed, keep it clean and maintained or buy a much more expensive setup
Good for the price

I've got several of these combos in different sizes, 4000, 4500 and 5000, and I've been very happy with them. They cast well, work great for bottom fishing and even trolling in a pinch. I am sure I've overloaded the rod and have not broken any of the three that I have have. Several of my friends don't like the rods in these combos but for what I am doing they work fine. I use them on my dock for catfish and rockfish and on the boat with the kids to bottom fish, mostly stripers and catfish.
Prosgreat for the price very tough, a ton of charters use them for bottom fishing
Consthe reel is heavy
Great value for the price

Prosvalue for the $ a lot of bottom fishing charters in the bay area use them for a season or two which says a lot about how tough they are.
Consthe reels are heavy

I love the setup, very sturdy and extremely balanced. Shipping was quick and the packaging was pristine however when I received the rod it was missing the butt cap. I didn't notice the butt cap was missing being I had not used the rod and reel. Once I realized it was missing, I contacted tackle direct twice and thus far the missing butt cap hasn't been resolved.

Received this rod and reel within days of my order. Came in two different packages which was fine being the rod was tightly packed in the oversized tube. Haven't gotten a chance to use yet but seems to be very well built with a nice balance for the combo.
ProsGreat packaging and quick delivery

Solid product at a great price

Great rod/reel for the price. The rod is a bit bulky, but not as bad as the cheaper whuppin stick rods. Quality you would expect from Penn.

I bought this rod after my ugly stik combo broke 3 times. This rod is 10 times better than the my old rod. I have taken this rod out on more than 50 trips and still going strong like it's brand new.

This is an alright setup, but I prefer my SSV setup.
What is a good rod to pair with a Penn Battle 2 model 1000 for smaller fish in mangroves of the Keys? Thank you! Doug
The 4000 series inshore series would work for you

The Penn Battalion Inshore rods, either the 6'6 or 7' rods would be a good rod to use. Medium Light or Light will work. Depends mostly on what you are catching. You can even bump up to a Medium incase there's a larger sized fish around that may take your bait. Here's a link to check them out: https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-battalion-inshore-rods.html

Is the Battle II reel included in the combos exactly the same (ie its not a lesser quality version) at the Battle II reel that can be bought separately?
The Penn Battle reels sold with the rods are not a lower quality reel than the reels that are sold individually.
Hi, I asked a question regarding a rod match for a Penn Battle II spinning reel that i received as a gift, but i gave the wrong reel # its actually the Battle II 5000 and i Need to pair it up a nice Inshore and freshwater medium heavy rod, please advice, Thanks in advance, Claudio.
I am assuming that you are fishing for striper, bluefish, flounder etc in New Jersey. Check out this rod: http://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-vis76mhf-avid-inshore-spinning-rod-7-ft-6-in.html
