Faulty blank
December 3, 2019
Got this rod for a tarpon trip to Florida the 9â€;™; 1-4 oz was casting a 2.5oz lure and snapped on a cast on the second day hoping they will replace it even have video proof love the rod just hope it was a faulty blank and the next one is better
Pros
Love the way it feels in the hands
Cons
Rod tip snapped on me the second day of use

9' 1-4 oz.
November 20, 2019
I picked this rod up for lighter tackle shore fishing and i really enjoy it. I can still get pretty good distance if i'm throwing 1/2 oz jigs but the sweet spot really is that 1 1/2 oz to 2 oz range. Landed a 30 lb striper with it on my first outing with it throwing a weightless sluggo. Flicks it out there no problem. I do wish the butt section was a tiny bit thinner like the emblem but that's just me being picky. Good stick.

Great Rod!

Purchased this Rod last year. Its been holding up great. So far no issues and love it. I mainly use it from the Jetty and from the surf in SoCal.

Broke it twice this year!
November 21, 2018
Unfortunately, I have had issues with the 10'6 1-4 oz rated rod. First time breaking it the top piece broke between the first and second guide while fighting a decent sized Jack Crevalle. I sent the rod back to Daiwa through warranty and received a new one 2 weeks later... same model. After 2 months it finally broke again when pulling up a 5 lb bluefish from the jetty. A couple well known youtubers have reviewed this rod and received multiple reports of the medium 1-4 oz models breaking. It was suggested that there is a manufacturing defect with these particular models. I have heard great things about the 11 foot MH but haven't tested it.
Pros
Very light weight, casts far, good sensitivity, smooth guides
Cons
Broke twice, weak rod specifically 10'6 1-4 oz, tip of the butt does not grip well with surfaces and slides easily

Best Surf spinning rod!
November 4, 2018
This rod is light and whippy, great for throwing plugs even at the lightest end of it's range. I had read some reviews that the rod was breaking on heavier plugs, so fishing a jetty during the mullet run here in Florida I was tentative at first to use it for live bait. As it was the only rod I had with me I got more and more confident, using it to heave even 15" mullet into the current. This rod is strong! Great purchase.

My first 10ft surf rod
February 7, 2018
I fell in love with this rod on my first visit to tackle direct but ordered it online a little while after my visit. Great quality and finish at an affordable price. I havent got a chance to use it yet but I know it will work perfect. Sp minnows are like my faves so I figured why not give the rod a shot. I am very happy with my purchase!!!

Great Value
November 20, 2016
Good quality rod. Packs plenty of fighting power. Caught a 39" red on its first time on the surf. Had no trouble handing it.
Pros
Lightweight Sensitivity Value
Cons
Only cons are the butt cap coming loose and the casting weight range being over-rated, I could not imagine casting more than 8 ounces with it, which is fine for the use I make of it.

Will have to say I bought this rod to use down in mexico, but have not gone yet , though I live in wyoming I test it out on the lake . Great casting wen down to a 1/2 an ounce an still cast it out pretty far handle good size trout easily obiously not what is intended for but handled them pretty well with not that much streas on the rod , will handle the more pelagic fish in mexico but till then good rod good price I like it and would recommend it nice shipping and handling
Pros
Great cast back bone and price
Cons

Can I use a 20 pound braid on a saltis 6500 to pair with this rod
1 Answer
You can put 20# braid on it but it can handle a larger diameter line and still give you alot of line. It would pair well with this rod.

Which reel is better to pair with this rod? Shimano ULT5500 or ULT14000?
1 Answer
The Ult5500 would be your best bet if your using it for artificial baits, the ULT14000 would be good for cut bait

I want to pair this rod with a Penn 7500SS spinning reel / 20 lb. mono for the striper surf. Given that the line / lure weights are the same, do you recommend the 10'6' or 11'? Fish bait rigs +50% of the time, still want to be able to sling lures in the 2.5-4 oz range.
1 Answer
Hello Michael. The 11 foot model would pair excellently with your spinfisher for fishing in the surf!

Does the saltist 4500 reel would be a good option to match with this Rod?
1 Answer
The 4500 size would be too small for this rod. We suggest going with the 5000 or 6000. They will balance out the combo much better and improve the casting distance.
