Avet EXW 80/2 Two-Speed Lever Drag Big Game Reel

These reels are incredibly made & designed! Made in USA; Absolutely love that they offer a line of multiple colors but, blue was my 1st choice as I have installed them on matching blue Connley stand up Blue Young 50-100# trolling rods! I have every Avet reel for tuna fishing. Never had any issues with them. We caught bigeyes to 215lbs on 30exw and handled it beautifully. I will only fish with Avet products.

These are my go to grouper reels. Mounted on gen 1 terez rail rods, 100 lb momoi diamond. There is nothing like it for gags, blacks, and scamp grouper. Built like a tank.

The Avet EXW 30/2 has the feel and heft of a high end reel. The fit and finish is exceptional. The line capacity is good for a 30 class reel. Strike (35) and full (40) are effective drag capabilities for the line weight and expected use of this reel. I will be adding Avet reels to my trolling spread as is I replace my older reels. Made in the USA is a nice plus for this company. I have become a new Avet fan!

I love these for grouper spool them to the top with 80 lb momoi mono. I have never lost a grouper or amberjack when using them. IMO the best bottom reel bar none in addition to the hxw Raptor. I use the old model Terez rail rod.

Avet no longer supplies an aluminum rod clamp with the reel. The new clamps are injection molded carbon fiber in the shape of the old aluminum ones. Mine broke during installation while using a screwdriver with a socket head on it to level and snug the clamp. An examination of the broken clamp revealed several quality issues.
There were flow marks along the outside of the clamp (both the original and the replacement) these usually come from the injected material cooling and hardening before it flows through the mold. The plastic material folds over itself and, especially in the case of fiber materials, does not properly bond again. The design of the clamp creates a stress point where the lanyard boss meets the body of the clamp. It's a right angle which does not allow the body of the clamp to flex evenly along the pole, the area directly under the boss becomes a static load point with the thin spot along each side of the boss becoming a fulcrum. This is where the clamp broke. Avet no longer has the aluminum clamps in stock and none are available aftermarket. I have been forced to fabricate my own. Not what I wanted to to on a brand new $700+ reel.

I bought this reel after using it on a recent tuna trip. I was fishing a Saltiga SALD40 spooled with 80 lb Power Pro and about 10 yards of 60 lb fluorocarbon top shot. Although I was able to land tuna with this setup, I noticed that the two older guys next to me were having an easier time landing fish than I was. One of the guys let me use his Avet 30/2 and I was hooked (pun intended). The leverage and power from using a size 30 two speed reel to catch 70 lb to 100 lb tuna made a difference. I wouldn't want to jig with this reel (the SALD 40 is much lighter and better suited for jigging), but other than that these Avet reels are very solid, dependable and reasonably priced.

The reel is perfect and I really wish they would not discontinue the patriot model. I fish around a bunch of veterans and they love it when the American flag reels come out.
